Marty McFly is an ordinary 1980s teenager whose friendship with a local eccentric inventor goes badly wrong one night, leaving him stranded thirty years before his own time. A fast, warm comedy about a small town, a stubborn machine and a clock that keeps running.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of 1980s Hollywood family entertainment, produced in the Spielberg-backed Amblin orbit, where spectacle, humour and sentiment were fused into a single crowd-pleasing package.
Watch with intention
