Fifty-seven years after her ship was destroyed, Ellen Ripley is pulled back toward the moon where it all began, this time alongside a squad of confident Colonial Marines. A sequel that trades the first film's slow dread for sustained tension and large-scale action.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of 1980s blockbuster science fiction, it showed how a sequel could change genre while deepening its predecessor, and it set the template for military sci-fi on screen.
Watch with intention
Watch how Cameron reshapes the first film's fear into a different genre while building everything around Ripley's point of view.
